【国際交流】Hong Kong Protestant High School students and staff visit NWU

Students from HKMLC Queen Maud Secondary School and Fanling Lutheran Secondary School visited Nagasaki Wesleyan University as part of their tour of the Chinzei Academy on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2019. The event was headed by NWU Vice-President Mr. Hiroyuki Igawa as part of an ongoing program to promote international exchange.

A total of 24 students and 4 faculty members attended the tour. Students and staff members from both institutes met at Nagasaki Wesleyan University Nishiyama Hall in the morning as greetings and speeches were exchanged. Nagasaki Wesleyan University President Mr. Yoshinobu Sato gave welcoming remarks followed by greetings from Principal Chan Hon Ming. Vice-Principal Tong Ho Fun and instructor Ms. Tai Sau Fung joined the event. Principal Chan Hon Ming spoke on the importance of education and its role in global citizenship while explaining how education extends beyond the classroom.

The welcoming ceremony was conducted by NWU International Committee president Mr. Kazuki Noboriyama and translated by Ms. Yan Juanting. Student representative Ms. Chung Cheuk Yiu gave a speech on behalf of the student body. Ms. Chung Cheuk Yiu reiterated the importance of education and talked about the importance of history to understand the past and treasure peace.

Student presentation was followed by NWU Department of Economic Policy Professor Hisao Kato who gave a presentation on the history of Christianity in Nagasaki and touched on the shared Christian legacy of NWU and partner institutes. Following the welcoming ceremony, gifts were exchanged and students and staff members joined a campus tour which included hearing a sermon from NWU Pastor Michitaka Kanda and a visit to the Chinzei History Museum. The campus visit was concluded with a game and group work activity with NWU students facilitated by NWU professor Lee Flake.

We would like to thank the students and staff of HKMLC Queen Maud Secondary School and Fanling Lutheran Secondary School for visiting Nagasaki Wesleyan University. Our shared Christian legacy as well as education and program goals units us.
