Let&#8217;s shed some light on this often misunderstood topic:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>A<\/strong> cat walked into <strong>the<\/strong> room.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">She bought <strong>an<\/strong> umbrella for <strong>the<\/strong> rainy day.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">In these sentences, &#8220;a,&#8221; &#8220;an,&#8221; and &#8220;the&#8221; are articles. &#8220;A&#8221; and &#8220;an&#8221; are indefinite articles, used to refer to non-specific nouns, while &#8220;the&#8221; is the definite article, used to refer to specific nouns. \u201cA\u201d is used before a word beginning with a consonant (a cat, a book) and \u201can\u201d is used before a word beginning with a vowel (an apple, an egg).
