It was a symbolic celebration of the growing diversity within our department. The professors from China and Korea are new additions to the faculty this academic year, and this walking tour was an opportunity to build connections outside the classroom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Unzen, located in Nagasaki Prefecture, is renowned for its hot springs, volcanic landscapes, and historical significance. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it was a popular destination for foreign visitors and Christian missionaries\u2014making it a fitting location for a cross-cultural gathering. The visit offered a moment of quiet contemplation, reminding us of the deep cultural and spiritual history that shapes this part of Japan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Department of International Studies is proud of its diverse faculty and the strong sense of community it fosters. This small excursion to Unzen and Suwa Shrine was a joyful reminder that international understanding begins not just in the classroom, but also through shared experiences in the beautiful and meaningful places that surround us.
