On Monday, June 9, students in the \u82f1\u8a9e\u306e\u3057\u304f\u307f class had the opportunity to experience a unique and memorable lesson led by a special guest teacher, David McCaw-sensei from Chinzei Gakuin High School. His class introduced a creative and engaging approach to language learning through music.<\/span><\/p>\n

Titled \u201cAppreciating English Through Music,\u201d the lesson focused on the power of music\u2014particularly folk and country genres\u2014as a tool for studying a foreign language. Students were introduced to the music of iconic recording artists Cat Stevens and Willie Nelson. McCaw-sensei shared his personal connection to these artists and explained how his own interest in music shaped his journey as both a learner and teacher of English.<\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout the lesson, McCaw-sensei guided students through the lyrics of selected songs, helping them uncover the deeper meanings, cultural background, and emotional nuances embedded in the words. Students explored how language in music reflects identity, values, and storytelling traditions.<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the key takeaways from the lesson was the advantage of studying a foreign language through one\u2019s interests. McCaw-sensei emphasized that when learners engage with materials they genuinely enjoy\u2014like music\u2014they are more likely to stay motivated, develop listening skills, and acquire vocabulary in a meaningful context.<\/span><\/p>\n

The class was both insightful and inspiring. Students not only improved their English skills but also gained a deeper appreciation for how language and music can work together to enrich learning.<\/span><\/p>\n

We sincerely thank McCaw-sensei for bringing his passion for music and language into our classroom. His lesson was a refreshing and thought-provoking experience that reminded students there is much to be learned when we follow our interests and approach language learning creatively.<\/span><\/p>\n
