Many students fear making mistakes when learning a language. Yet mistakes are precisely what make learning possible. Language is not simply knowledge to memorize; it is action. We speak, we write, we try \u2014 and in trying, we make mistakes. A mistake is not evidence of failure but evidence of effort. Without attempts, there is no revision, and without revision, there is no growth.<\/p>\n

In recent years, the rapid development of artificial intelligence has made it possible to generate polished, grammatically correct writing within seconds. This is an extraordinary advancement. However, it also carries a hidden risk: the temptation to bypass the very process that builds competence. When AI provides an immediate answer, students may skip the stages of struggling, attempting, failing, and refining. Seeing a perfect response is not the same as constructing one. If we become accustomed to receiving finished answers without engaging in the effort behind them, the learning process itself is compromised.<\/p>\n

For this reason, I encourage what I call \u201cfive-minute study.\u201d Five minutes a day is enough. Write a short paragraph without AI assistance. Think through an idea before checking a solution. Read aloud and rephrase ideas in your own words. The goal is not perfection; it is participation. Small, imperfect efforts repeated consistently build genuine confidence and skill.<\/p>\n

Language learning is not about producing flawless sentences. It is about developing the courage to communicate, the humility to revise, and the resilience to improve. These qualities cannot be outsourced. They are formed through experience \u2014 especially through mistakes.<\/p>\n

In our department, we value the willingness to try more than the fear of being wrong. AI is a powerful tool, but growth remains a human achievement. Even five minutes of sincere effort each day can shape a student\u2019s future in profound ways.<\/p>\n
