Nagasaki Wesleyan University will participate in the upcoming Sustaina Talks symposium, hosted by the University of Baguio, on May 8, 2026. This collaborative event brings together students and faculty from both institutions to explore SDG 4: Quality Education, with a focus on promoting cross-cultural understanding and shared global goals.

The University of Baguio (UB) actively engages in sustainability through its Sustaina Talks iniative, community partnerships, and academic integration, focusing on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These initiatives focus on regenerative tourism, environmental conservation, and local community development to create a lasting impact

The Sustaina Talks initiative provides a platform for meaningful international exchange, encouraging participants to reflect on educational practices, challenges, and opportunities within their respective contexts. Through dialogue and presentation, students will engage in discussions that highlight both differences and common ground between Japan and the Philippines.

Representing Nagasaki Wesleyan University is a professor in the Department of International Studies as well as two student representatives who exemplify the spirit of global engagement. K. Hayashida, a recent graduate currently pursuing a teaching license, previously studied at the University of Baguio as an exchange student. Her experiences abroad have strengthened her commitment to education and fostering mutual understanding among diverse student populations.

M. Ikeda, an active leader in student government and head of the university’s English Club, also contributes a strong international perspective. Having studied at the University of the Fraser Valley in Canada, he has developed both his language proficiency and global awareness, which he brings into his campus leadership and this international forum.

Together, the participants will address key themes related to access to education, learning environments, and the role of education in building sustainable and inclusive societies. Their presentations and discussions aim not only to share knowledge but also to inspire continued collaboration between institutions.

The Sustaina Talks symposium reflects Nagasaki Wesleyan University’s ongoing commitment to international partnership and the advancement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Through initiatives like this, students are given valuable opportunities to engage with global issues while developing the skills needed to contribute to an interconnected world.
