「英語のしくみ」は、多文化コミュニケーション学科の新入生を対象としたオムニバス形式の授業です。本授業では、学科に所属するさまざまな英語教員やゲストスピーカーが担当し、英語を多角的に学ぶための基礎を築きます。

授業では、英語の歴史や文化的背景、異文化理解、英語学習法、コミュニケーション、生成AIを活用した学習など、多彩なテーマを扱います。学生たちは「なぜ英語には発音とスペリングの違いがあるのか」「英語を学ぶ意味とは何か」といった問いについて考えながら、英語という言語への理解を深めていきます。

また、辞書の活用法やスピーキング力向上のためのストラテジー、英語による自己紹介や日常表現など、実践的な内容も含まれており、大学での専門的な英語学習につながる基礎力を養います。

本授業の特徴の一つは、学生が多くの教員と出会える点です。各教員の専門分野や授業スタイルに触れることで、学生は多様な視点から英語を学び、自分自身に合った学び方を見つけていきます。また、海外や異文化に関する話題を通して、国際的な視野を広げる機会にもなっています。

“The Structure of English” is an omnibus-style course designed for first-year students in the Department of Intercultural Communication. Through classes taught by faculty members and guest speakers, students are introduced to a wide range of perspectives on the English language and English learning.

The course explores diverse topics such as the history of English, cultural influences on language, intercultural understanding, communication strategies, English learning methods, and the use of generative AI in language study. Students are encouraged to think critically about questions such as why English spelling and pronunciation differ and what it means to study English in today’s global society.

Practical learning is also emphasized through activities focused on dictionary use, self-introductions in English, everyday communication, and strategies for improving speaking proficiency. These experiences help students build a strong foundation for future academic English study.

One of the unique strengths of this course is the opportunity for students to meet and learn from many different instructors within the department. By experiencing a variety of teaching styles and academic specialties, students gain broader perspectives and discover learning approaches that best fit their own interests and goals.
