The International Café (Room A-302) has recently been given a fresh new look through a creative project by a teacher in the Department of International Studies. Over the summer break, the teacher took on a do-it-yourself (DIY) remodeling project to upgrade the room while saving costs. The walls were repainted, and a large wooden conference table was built to create a warm and welcoming space for students and staff to meet, study, and share ideas.

One of the highlights of the renovation is the new wall art. The main wall features a world map as it appears in U.S. and Canadian sources, reflecting the cultural background of the teacher who painted it. Next to it, another image shows a boy and a girl sitting in a giant paper airplane. The paper airplane symbolizes Nagasaki Wesleyan University as a place that encourages students to explore the world through language and culture. The children represent our students, flying toward new experiences and global understanding.

The artistic style of the mural is inspired by Banksy and Rodriguez, combining strong contrasts of black and white or deep shadows, and simple colors with an image carrying a message of curiosity and hope. The project shows how creativity and community spirit can transform a classroom into an inspiring learning space. The painting process and table construction convey the effort and passion that went into this project. Students and staff are warmly encouraged to visit and use the International Café for conversation, study, and cultural exchange.
