On Saturday, September 6, 2025, an English Immersion Day Camp was held at the Arikawa Community Culture Center in Shin-Kamigoto. The event brought together students and faculty members from several local universities to engage with elementary school children in the region.

The camp was designed to spark interest in English among young learners while promoting opportunities for international exchange and cultural understanding. Through games, songs, and interactive activities such as gesture games, quizzes, and group challenges, the children were able to enjoy using English in a relaxed and supportive environment.

In addition to the children and local volunteers, students from teacher training programs at participating institutions joined the activities. Their involvement provided valuable hands-on experience in language teaching while contributing to the lively atmosphere of the day.

We were also pleased a professor from the Department of International Studies at Nagasaki Wesleyan University joined the program and exchanged ideas with fellow educators.

The event demonstrated the positive impact of collaboration between universities and the local community. For the children, it was a chance to see English not just as a school subject, but as a tool for communication and fun. For the university students, it offered meaningful opportunities to practice leadership, teaching, and intercultural skills.

We would like to thank the Shin-Kamigoto Town Office, local supporters, and all participating universities for their cooperation in making this event a success. We look forward to continuing such activities that connect education with the community and foster international understanding.
