「WORLDのんのこチャレンジ」を開催 ― PBL活動を通じて留学生と地域の方々が交流 ―

9月20日（日）、のんのこ諫早まつりの2日目に、学生会企画によるステージイベント「WORLDのんのこチャレンジ」が開催されました。

本企画は、鎮西学院大学におけるPBL（Problem-Based Learning）活動の一環として実施されたもので、留学生と地域の方々が一緒に楽しみながら交流できる場をつくり、大学と地域とのつながりを深めることを目的としました。経済政策学科3年のIRさんが中心となって企画・準備を進め、韓国、ネパール、ベトナムからの留学生もイベントの運営に協力しました。

イベントは、「じゃんけん大会」と「マルバツクイズ」の2部構成で行われました。

前半のじゃんけん大会では、留学生と参加者が一緒にじゃんけんを楽しみ、日本語、英語、韓国語で掛け声を変えながらゲームを進めました。子どもから大人まで多くの地域の方々が参加し、留学生とのじゃんけんを通して、言葉や国籍を越えた交流が生まれました。

後半のマルバツクイズでは、韓国・ネパール・ベトナムの留学生が、それぞれの国の文化や特徴に関するクイズを出題しました。参加者は問題を聞いた後、「○」または「×」と思うエリアに移動し、楽しみながら各国の文化について学びました。留学生たちは、予定していた内容だけでなく、会場の様子に合わせたアドリブや参加者とのやり取りも交えながら、イベントを盛り上げました。

当日は多くの方々に参加していただき、会場は終始明るく和やかな雰囲気に包まれました。特に、留学生と小さな子どもたちが一緒にじゃんけんを楽しむ姿が印象的でした。年齢や国籍に関係なく、同じゲームを通して自然に交流することができ、地域の方々と大学生、そして留学生をつなぐ機会となりました。

イベントの運営に参加した留学生からも、貴重な経験になったという声が寄せられました。

韓国から参加したKTさんは、じゃんけん大会や各国のクイズに加え、ダンス大会の運営、飲み物の配布、賞品の準備などにも携わりました。日本人のボランティアの方々と文化について話す機会もあり、祭りを楽しみながら交流の輪を広げることができた、充実した一日だったと振り返りました。

また、ネパールから参加したTKさんは、初めてスタッフとしてのんのこ諫早まつりに参加しました。多くの人と協力して祭りを盛り上げる中で、周囲の人と協力することの大切さや、祭りを運営することの大変さを学ぶことができ、普段とは違う立場から祭りを経験できたことが良い経験になったと話しています。

今回の「WORLDのんのこチャレンジ」を通して、留学生と地域の方々が国籍や年齢を越えて交流する機会が生まれました。また、PBL活動の一環として学生が地域のイベントの企画・運営に関わることで、実践的な学びを得るとともに、大学と地域とのつながりをさらに深める機会にもなりました。

企画・運営を担当したIRさんは、今回の経験を今後の学生会活動にも生かし、「参加する人の立場に立って考え、誰もが楽しめる企画づくり」を続けていきたいとしています。

WORLD Nonnoko Challenge: Connecting International Students and the Local Community through PBL

On Sunday, September 20, the second day of the Isahaya Nonnoko Festival, the Student Association held a stage event called the WORLD Nonnoko Challenge.

The event was organized as part of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) activities at Nagasaki Wesleyan University. It was designed to create an opportunity for international students and local residents to enjoy activities together while promoting interaction between the university and the local community. The event was planned and prepared primarily by Ms. IR, a third-year student in the Department of Economic Policy, with international students from Korea, Nepal, and Vietnam also assisting with the event.

The WORLD Nonnoko Challenge consisted of two activities: a Rock-Paper-Scissors Tournament and a True-or-False Quiz.

During the first part, participants played rock-paper-scissors with international students. The calls used to start each round changed between Japanese, English, and Korean, adding an international element to a familiar Japanese game. Children and adults from the local community took part, creating opportunities for participants and international students to interact naturally regardless of language or nationality.

The second part featured a True-or-False Quiz about Korea, Nepal, and Vietnam. International students introduced questions about their respective countries and cultures, while participants moved to either the “True” or “False” area of the stage to give their answers. The international students also responded to questions and interacted spontaneously with the audience, helping to create a lively and enjoyable atmosphere.

Many local residents took part in the event, and the venue was filled with a warm and energetic atmosphere. One particularly memorable scene was seeing international students playing rock-paper-scissors with young children. Through a simple game, people of different ages and nationalities were able to interact and enjoy themselves together.

The international students who helped with the event also found the experience meaningful.

Student Mr. KT from Korea participated in the rock-paper-scissors tournament and the international quiz, as well as helping with the operation of the dance competition, distributing drinks, and preparing prizes. There were also opportunities to talk with Japanese volunteers about their respective cultures. The experience was described as a fulfilling and rewarding day, providing an opportunity to enjoy the festival while expanding connections with others.

Nepal student Mr. TK participated in the Isahaya Nonnoko Festival as a staff member for the first time. Through working with many other people to help make the festival a success, the experience highlighted the importance of cooperation and provided a new appreciation for the challenges involved in organizing a large community festival. Taking part in the festival from a staff member’s perspective was also described as a valuable experience.

The WORLD Nonnoko Challenge provided an opportunity for international students and local residents to interact across differences in age and nationality. As part of the university’s PBL activities, it also gave students an opportunity to gain practical experience through planning and operating a community event while strengthening connections between the university and the local community.

Ms. IR, who was involved in planning and organizing the event, hopes to apply what was learned from this experience to future Student Association activities and continue developing events that are enjoyable and welcoming to everyone.
